| Simulation training for hysteroscopy surgery – new application for simball 4D joystick! |
|
The number of applications for simball 4D joystick is increasing.
At a medical fair in October 2009 in Florence, Italy, VirtaMed AG of Switzerland launched a new training module for HystSim, an advanced simulator for virtual training of hysteroscopy surgery. For the first time, the patented simball 4D joystick from G-coder Systems is used as input device. The launching was a success with large interest from many surgeons and surgery trainers. "I'm really happy to announce that by incorporating simball 4D we now can give our customers a wide choice of hardware solutions”, says Stefan Tuchschmid, CEO of VirtaMed AG. "What I like best about the simball device is that it's so easy to setup. There's no calibration, and the device can be fixed to any table or surface in a matter of seconds”, he continues. Also the robustness of simball 4D is highly appreciated: "In our initial tests we found that simball is a very robust solution. This allows us to build rugged yet mobile surgical simulators which can be used by sales reps in the field to display new medical devices".
The cooperation between the companies started early 2009 with some first successful trials with simball as input device to HystSim. “From there on it has been an effective joint development work to have each technical and commercial detail set on place”, describes Jonas Nilsagård , CEO of G-coder Systems. "Working together with G-Coder has been great. Jonas and the CTO of G-coder Systems Olle Takman have been very responsive to comments, they are a truly talented and well-balanced team”, concludes Stefan. For G-coder Systems the new customer and application is the important customer #2. “In winning this customer we really have proven the broad functionality and flexibility of our simball concept and ultimately its huge potential”, adds Jonas Nilsagård. The use of computer simulation and virtual training as complimentary tool for surgery training is rapidly increasing. Positive effects have been validated in several different studies around the world. Most common area so far is laparoscopy surgery training where G-coder Systems have supplied simball 4D to one of the world leaders to one of the world leaders since 2007. “The rapid growth in virtual surgery training is exciting and we plan to take active part in it”, summarizes Jonas.
